A good read!

A good amount of suspense in the plot! Ng weaves each character's story seamlessly together and despite a large cast of characters, each one is distinct. The depiction of Shaker residents was relatable, I grew up with these kinds of people. I'm not sure how well Ng handles the transracial adoption but the depiction of Shaker residents' own perception of their morals felt pertinent to our current time.

finally got around to this! i wondered what was the purpose of drawing people as animals but it made more sense when the mice wear pig masks to blend in. i can see why this graphic novel is a classic.

Satrapi manages to put so much in so little pages and still maintains nuance and it never feels rushed. This woman has lived through a lot.

Finally got around to reading this classic. I'm not used to the vignette style but this was effective in reading like Esperanza's diary. Sandra Cisnero's poetry background comes through with each chapter, I could image each character as a whole thanks to the poeticness.

Farenheit

Picked this up on a whim, it was nice to revisit a book I read when I was younger. I think I understand it better now not just the commentary but the imagery as well - Bradbury was talking about futuristic technology with a 1950s mind so there's some mental gymnastics with imagining what Guy Montag' world looks like. Unfortunately, the things Bradbury fears are very much present in our 21st century.

Horror and humor mixed together, Satrapi did a really good job showing what happened in Iran through her childhood eyes. For a period that can be confusing to understand all the changes in power and ideological battles, seeing Iran's political turmoil through an innocent pair of eyes made things easier to understand while not lacking any nuance. Next time I should read this in French.

I Went Undercover as a Secret OnlyFans Chatter. It Wasn’t Pretty
Read on 05.23

Never thought of professional chatters as a thing but I'm honestly not suprised that this job exists in our current late-stage capitalist world. Not surprised that it's a low wage (or even non-paying job) that exploits workers from countries that have low-labor costs. Kudos to the writer for literally getting employed as a professional chatter on Onlyfans, this experience did not sound fun.

Graphic Designers Have Always Loved Minimalism. But At What Cost?

Does the on-going trend of minimalism in graphic design annoy you? Well, here's a good article explaining why it's a thing and how corporate capitalism flattened its original intentions. :')
